Officials say better staff training may be driving higher reporting, while school board members pressed for clearer measures of whether new consequences and restorative practices are actually reducing harm for students, including those in Montgomery Village.
• Driver dies after going over railing following Beltway crash in Montgomery Co. (wtop.com) — An 18-year-old man died Sunday night after fleeing a crash on the Outer Loop of I-495 near Georgia Avenue in Montgomery County and falling about 50 feet over a railing onto Stoney Brook Drive. State police say he had struck a towed pickup, ran shirtless along the shoulder toward Connecticut Avenue, and was pronounced dead at the scene, a sobering reminder for Montgomery Village drivers using the Beltway.
• Inspector General Finds County Attorney Employee Misused County Vehicle (montgomeryperspective.com) — Montgomery County's inspector general found that a county attorney's office employee repeatedly misused a county vehicle and failed to report a crash, prompting concern from top administrators. While the worker has since resigned, the case highlights how gaps in vehicle oversight and accident reporting can expose county taxpayers, including Montgomery Village residents, to financial and safety risks.
