Today's riddle: What did one wall say to the other? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Montgomery County Declares September African Heritage Month (tantvnews.com) — Montgomery Village residents now live in the first county in the nation to officially declare September as African Heritage Month, honoring African immigrants' cultural and economic contributions. The County Council's proclamation, themed "Building Montgomery County, African Voices Making a Difference," highlights local entrepreneurs, artists, and community leaders while reaffirming a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
2. This is what Montgomery County's superintendent looks for when he visits schools (thebanner.com) — Montgomery Village families can expect more consistent lessons across MCPS classrooms as Superintendent Thomas Taylor pushes a detailed "Lead with Intention" playbook for what students learn daily. While some teachers worry about micromanagement, Taylor and his team say tighter expectations will boost test scores and narrow inequities across the county's more than 200 schools.
3. Two Montgomery County malls to enact 3 p.m. juvenile curfews (fox5dc.com) — Westfield Montgomery and Westfield Wheaton malls, both popular with Montgomery Village teens, will soon require anyone under 18 to be with an adult after 3 p.m. starting Monday, Sept. 28. The new curfew follows several violent incidents and will be enforced with security officers, ID checks, and posted signs, drawing mixed reactions from shoppers and parents.
4. Montgomery County Home Sales Slow as Housing Supply Increases (mocoshow.com) — Montgomery County's housing market, including neighborhoods like Montgomery Village, is cooling with fewer sales and more homes available, even as prices keep edging up. August data show rising inventory and slower activity, giving local buyers slightly more choice and less competition, while sellers still benefit from higher median prices than a year ago.
5. 18-Year-Old Dies After Fall From I-495 Overpass in Maryland (clayconews.com) — An 18-year-old man died after falling from an I-495 overpass in Montgomery County following a Sept. 13 multi-vehicle crash near Georgia Avenue, an incident still under state police investigation. Troopers say he fled his car on foot before jumping over a railing to Stoney Brook Drive, where Montgomery County EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
