Awarded Nearly $210,000 to Support Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village Communities (mocoshow.com) — Families in Montgomery Village and central Gaithersburg will see new support for reducing child poverty and boosting economic mobility, thanks to a nearly $210,000 state ENOUGH Initiative grant to Identity, Inc. The funding targets six high-need census tracts served by local Gaithersburg-area schools and will back a resident-led Neighborhood Action Plan with multiple community partners.
• Banking info of 7,500 people inadvertently shared by Montgomery Co. staff (wtop.com) — Montgomery County officials say a June error exposed bank account details for more than 7,500 retirees and fire and rescue volunteers, information that could include Montgomery Village residents. The data was emailed in an Excel file to county and outside addresses before being deleted from government inboxes, and while misuse isn't evident, some affected people are pushing for stronger protections.
• Montgomery Co. schools planning for the future with closure and consolidation engagement meetings (wtop.com) — Montgomery County Public Schools are launching two rounds of public meetings this fall on possible school closures and consolidations, a process that could affect Montgomery Village students and neighborhoods. With enrollment projected to decline over the next decade, officials say no closure list exists yet and are asking families to help shape the criteria and data used in any decisions.
