Today's riddle: How do billboards talk? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Officer wrangles snake in elderly woman's Montgomery Village home (mymcmedia.org) — An elderly resident in Montgomery Village got unexpected help when a Montgomery County police officer personally responded to remove a two-foot black snake from her bedroom on Freestate Place. Body camera video shows the first-time snake wrangler calmly grabbing the snake barehanded so she wouldn't have to wait in fear, with both leaving the encounter unharmed.
2. Fire and carbon monoxide: Why fall is the time to check your furnace (tristatealert.com) — Before you turn on the heat in Montgomery Village, state and local safety experts urge you to get your furnace and chimney inspected, test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and keep space heaters clear of anything that can burn. Maryland law, including stricter Montgomery County rules, now requires carbon monoxide detectors in many homes, making this a good weekend to check your equipment and replace aging alarms.
3. Montgomery County Recovers More Than $176 Million in COVID-19 Costs From FEMA (mocoshow.com) — Montgomery County, which includes Montgomery Village, has now recovered more than $176 million from FEMA to cover eligible COVID-19 response costs, money that supported health, food and emergency services residents relied on. Officials say every eligible dollar has been reimbursed after years of documentation, appeals and audits, with help from federal lawmakers.
4. More Than $2.7 Million in State Funding Approved for Montgomery County Projects (mocoshow.com) — Montgomery Village residents could see indirect benefits as the state approves more than $2.7 million for Montgomery County projects, including affordable housing, early childhood education space, arts facilities and workforce training labs. Several nonprofits and institutions will use the grants to expand services, improve facilities and support residents with mental health, recreation and accessibility needs.
