Former Watkins mill student, Layilah Nasser will be representing Maryland at the Miss Teen America Scholarship Program

Montgomery Village MD, July 4, 2014 A leader is a selfless, ambitious and vigilant individual who guides their followers to greatness. Many women leaders are created through the puissant organization called Girl Scouts of America. As a first grader, Layilah was introduced to this wonderful organization. Their mission is predicated upon helping girls acquire the endurance, disposition and confidence to take action.  Layilah used to be very reserved until she decided to step out of her comfort zone, and run for the president of her troop.  After winning that election, she served as president for many years.  The skills she gained from this experience guided her to other leadership opportunities within Girl Scouts.  Layilah served as the spokesperson for Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capital for a year and was a Public Relations Department intern her senior year of high school. She was able spread the word by speaking at different events, participating in documentaries, and interviews. Layilah raised awareness regarding the historical and future mission of the Girl Scouts. Over the years, she has received over 100 plus badges as well gaining over 2,000 hours of community with Girl Scouts and her community. She has just received her Girl Scout Life-Long Member Certification. Layilah Nasser is the reigning Miss Maryland Teen America and a Second year student at Spelman College. Layilah would like become a Clinical Forensics Psychologist. She also wants to create different treatment plans to help inmates recover from mental health problems. Directly after graduating from Spelman she plans on attending Harvard Graduate School.  Layilah was just accepted into the Girl Scout Young Leader Program 2014 ! She will be leading three Girl Scout troops for six weeks. Layilah will be competing for the title of Miss Teen America July 30-August 2nd.   Miss Teen America is a Scholarship Program that believes in the power of community service, Layilah believes in Girl Power. GirlScouts help girls gain the leadership skills they need to make the world better place. When a girl succeeds, our society succeeds!
