Independent Pharmacy Opens in Montgomery Village, MD

The Village Pharmacy opens its doors in Montgomery Village - the first independent pharmacy to do so in over two years.

After more than two years without an independent pharmacy to serve the community, Montgomery Village has one again with the recent opening of The Village Pharmacy, LLC located at the Montgomery Village Marketplace Shopping Center at 9999 Stedwick Road.

“We are so excited to open an independent pharmacy in Montgomery Village,” beams Dr. Sheila Alizadeh, one of the owners of The Village Pharmacy. Alizadeh also co-owns and operates Shady Grove Pharmacy, a successful independent pharmacy in Rockville. She explains they have been ready to expand for over a year now, and Montgomery Village has always been at the top of a short list of locations for their business model. “The big chain stores seem to have a strangle-hold on this wonderful community, and since Richard Matheny closed his doors in 2013 there has been no independent pharmacy alternative for the people who live and work in Montgomery Village.”

Alizadeh is referencing Village Pharmacists, Inc, the community pharmacy that operated at the Professional Center since the 1970’s, and who closed their doors in April 2013 surrounding speculation of re-development of the center.

In fact, Dr. Matheny and his wife Linda are already customers at The Village Pharmacy. “As soon as I heard they were open, I stopped in to say hello and transferred my family’s prescriptions to them the same day,” says Matheny. “It’s a very nice pharmacy they built, and Stewart is clearly a very competent, friendly pharmacist.”

He is referring to Dr. Stewart Carter, the other owner of The Village Pharmacy and also the Pharmacy Manager. Carter, a pharmacist with over 40 years of experience in both retail and hospital pharmacy, was brought on by Alizadeh to run day-to-day operations and be the primary point of contact for most of the customers who come in. “We are so lucky to have Stewart with us at this new location,” says Alizadeh. “Not only is he one of the finest and most experienced pharmacist in the area, but he is one the kindest, nicest guys anyone could want to know.”

Being friendly and approachable is more than just lip service for Sheila Alizadeh and her business partner, Geoff Stewart. Shady Grove Pharmacy owes its success not only to its promptness and professionalism, but also to its commitment to providing a relaxed, friendly, and fun atmosphere. Under Carter’s leadership, The Village Pharmacy will operate under these same core values.
