Investigation into Potomac Pipe Bombing Leads to Arrest of 68-Year-Old

Warrant served at address in Montgomery Village on Thursday, but Farzin Sadeghi was found in Virginia.

A 68-year-old Montgomery Village man was arrested on Thursday in connection with the March 16 of a pipe bomb outside a $4 million home in Potomac.

On Thursday morning, Montgomery County investigators and Virginia State Police executed simultaneous warrants at two residences belonging to Farzin Sadeghi—one in the 18000 block of Walkers Choice Road and the other in Marshall, Va., a small town roughly halfway between Manassas and Front Royal.

Sadeghi was found at the Virginia home and arrested, according to a statement from Montgomery fire officials. Investigators identified him as a suspect early on in the investigation, which has also involved county police, the FBI and ATF, according to the statement.

"[T]he residents of Montgomery County can rest assured that the person involved in this heinous crime has been taken off the street," according to the statement.

The residence allegedly targeted in the March 16 explosion is a 7,560 square-foot house in the Bradley Farms community of Potomac. Fire officials estimated the damage at $25,000. As of January 2011, the two-acre property was worth more than $4 million, according to online property records.

In 1992, Sadeghi and a co-owner of the Potomac home were jointly sued in Montgomery County Circuit Court for more than $250,000 by Sequoia Federal Savings Bank. The case was dismissed in 1994, according to online court records.
