Message to Governor Hogan

Achieve austerity for Maryland by reforming the Bond Bill Program

In his recent note to citizens Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot said that “he will never forget that it’s our money that he’s been hired to watch”. I ask that he and Gov. Hogan demonstrate their commitment to austerity by reassessing the 2012 Bond Bill allocation of $125,000 for a sports toilet in Montgomery Village.

The Montgomery Village Foundation Executive Vice President has notified the community that the original plan, which called for a single facility to serve both the lawn theatre and ball fields, was not possible. It has now been two years since the December 2012 Bureau of Public Works session approved the funding. There has been no construction at South Valley, and the project has been mired in a string of Montgomery County approvals still ongoing.

I urge Governor-elect Larry Hogan to demand that the Montgomery Village Foundation return the unused $125,000 Bond Bill funding as Montgomery Village’s gift to a new, austere Maryland. In addition, I urge Governor-elect Larry Hogan to conduct a review of the Department of General Services practices associated and its uneven administration of the Bond Bill program.
