Nanny Stole $430K from Montgomery County Family
A former nanny has pleaded guilty to forging checks to steal nearly half a million dollars from the family she worked for over two years.

A former Gaithersburg nanny has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $430,000 from her former Montgomery County employers and using the stolen funds to buy a house and to visit a West Virginia casino.
Kadiatu Sahid Kamara, 50, of Gaithersburg, pleaded guilty Monday to mail fraud and aggravated identity theft in the case, reports WRC TV. The money was used to buy a house in Africa, to send money transfers, and at a casino in Charles Town, WV, authorities said.
Prosecutors say over a two-year period, Kamara wrote herself 118 checks from her employers’ money market account, reports WJLA TV. The checks totaled $431,542.

She had never been authorized to write checks from the account, but between May 2011 and May 2013, Kamara forged an account holder’s signature on the checks and then deposited them into her bank account, prosecutors said.
Kamara faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for mail fraud and a mandatory minimum of two years in prison consecutive to any other sentence imposed, says WJLA. She has agreed to forfeit and pay restitution of $431,542 to her former employers.
