National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Watch for Parts of MoCo

Snow will likely affect rush hours Monday evening and Tuesday morning, according to weather service.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Bethesda region. The watch is in effect from Monday, Presidents’ Day, at 6 p.m. until Tuesday at noon, according to the NWS.

The National Weather Service predicts the area will see 5 or more inches of snow.

The watch area includes the District of Columbia, plus southeastern Montgomery County, parts of Howard and Harford counties, and all of Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties, along with northern Virginia.

A Wind Chill Advisory for Sunday has been extended by the weather service until Monday at 10 a.m. The temperature will feel like 5 to 10 degrees below zero Sunday night and Monday morning.

Snow chances are 20 percent on Monday, climbing to 80 percent Monday night and 70 percent on Tuesday. Highs will be in the low 20s Monday and Tuesday, climbing to 28 by Wednesday, before skies clear and temps crash into the teens on Thursday.

The weather service warns:

The combination of gusty winds and cold temperatures will continue to make dangerous wind chills that can quickly cause hypothermia and frostbite through Monday morning. Beginning Monday evening roads will become snow covered and slippery with visibilities being reduced to one half mile or less at times. The combination of snow covered roads and low visibility will make traveling dangerous.
