State Basketball Draw Sets Playoff Match-ups

Watkins Mill girls host Northwood Friday night while boys travel to Damascus.

The Maryland basketball state playoff seeding draw was held at Columbia’s Long Reach High School on Sunday, officially announcing first-round playoff match-ups for all boys and girls teams in every division, 1A through 4A.

In Maryland, every team is eligible for post-season play. Playoffs are broken up by Class A designation, and then further bracketed by state location (north, south, east and west). Generally in each location (for example 3A West), the teams with the four best records are given the top four seeds and receive a bye in first-round play. The rest of the teams are seeded at random and matched up against one another in the first round.

The Lady Wolverines landed the fifth seed and will host twelfth-seeded Northwood, whom they beat 59-35 on Dec. 15.
