Tipster Helps Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect
A phone call from a tipster led to the arrest of a man who allegedly robbed a Montgomery Village bank two years ago.

MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, MD — Authorities say that a phone call from a tipster led to the arrest of a man who robbed a Montgomery Village bank two years ago.
The man — 32-year-old Raul Gerardo Castro, of Gaithersburg — was charged with one count of armed robbery, court records reveal.
The armed robbery occurred at the Sandy Spring Bank on Stedwick Road on June 12, 2017. Montgomery County Police say Castro approached a teller and passed a note demanding cash. The note, according to officials, also implied that he had a weapon. Castro was then able to flee the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

On June 13, 2017, police released a photograph of the suspect in hopes that the public could help identify him. It wasn't until two years later — on June 10, 2019 — that detectives received a tip which led to the identification of Castro as the suspect.
On June 21, 2019, Castro was arrested near his Gaithersburg home and charged with armed robbery. Authorities say he was released after posting a $20,000 bond.
