About 12:35 p.m., school police witnessed two young people running outside the school.
"When they captured one of them, he [had] a gun on his person and blood on his person," Baltimore Police spokesman T.J. Smith said.
The 17-year-old student detained for questioning was not injured and was the victim of a botched robbery attempt, according to Smith.
"Something happened at the school between some individuals, and one of those individuals appears to have been shot," Smith said.
Authorities are sure that a shooting victim is outstanding.
"We do have evidence that a gun was fired and someone was the recipient of that gunshot," Smith said. "That person is likely a suspect in this scenario, and that person likely fled from the scene."
Police are reviewing video footage and interviewing witnesses.
"We don't have any reason at this point to believe anybody else is in harm's way at this time," Smith said. "Again, we recovered a gun and recovered a person with a gun, but we're still looking for a person that has a gunshot wound somewhere out there. It could be close by, and we don't know if that person is an adult or a juvenile, student or not."
Authorities are asking for help locating the individual. "It appears to have been a non-life-threatening injury," Smith said, "but the person is obviously going to need some treatment soon."
