3 Teens Charged in Baltimore Bicyclist's Fatal Stabbing
Teens face murder charges in death of 29-year-old attacked while biking home through Waverly.
BALTIMORE, MD — Mourners gathered to remember the 29-year-old man who was stabbed to death while riding his bicycle home from work on Saturday, Jan. 9, in north Baltimore.
Robert Ponsi would have turned 30 years old on Tuesday, Jan. 12, the night his family, friends and many community members in Baltimore gathered for a vigil in his memory at the site of the stabbing, according to WBAL.
Police said Ponsi was assaulted, stabbed and robbed by a group of individuals in the area of Old York Road and Venable Avenue at 9:10 p.m. on Saturday. He was allegedly robbed of his cell phone and bike.

“There was some sort of verbal confrontation,” according to police, who said Ponsi stopped his bike on Greenmount Avenue and was attacked.
Witnesses said a group surrounded Ponsi, and he held his bike up while the young crowd yelled obscenities, and a 15-year-old—who has since been charged—pulled out a knife and stabbed him, ABC 2 News reported.

The 29-year-old had been biking home from his job at the James Joyce Pub on President Street, according to the TV station.
Police said Ponsi, who lived in the 1200 block of East Old York Road, died of his injuries at Johns Hopkins Hospital at 3:51 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10.

Approximately 100 people gathered at the site of the stabbing for a vigil on Tuesday evening, organized by the Better Waverly Community Organization, according to The Baltimore Sun.
As of Wednesday morning, three teens have been charged—as adults—with first and second-degree murder, armed robbery and first and second-degree assault:
- Antwan Eldridge, 17, of the 3900 block of Rexmere Road
- Daquan Middleton, 16, of the 1200 block of Linwood Avenue
- Prince Green, 15, of the 600 block of E. 37th Street (also charged with possessing a dangerous weapon with intent to injure; murder, assault and armed robbery conspiracy; and theft less than $10,000).
“These are dangerous individuals,” Baltimore Police said. “They were involved in a murder, and we want them off the street today.” The teens are being held without bail.
Officials say they are continuing to look for additional suspects.
