Baltimore Chamber Jazz Presents Orrin Evans in Concert

The Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society presents a concert by the renowned pianist Orrin Evans and his Quintet April 3, 2016, in Baltimore.

The Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society (BCJS) continues its 2015-2016 season at the Baltimore Museum of Art, on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at 5 p.m., with a performance by the renowned pianist Orrin Evans and his Quintet. The current BCJS season marks the Society’s 25th year of bringing jazz greats to Baltimore.

Evans has been recognized as one of the most inventive pianists of his generation. He is that rare musical force – a composer, pianist, bandleader, teacher, producer and arranger - who uses his diverse musical influences from hip hop and neo-soul to country to create an art experience comprised of the American Songbook, spirituals, iconic jazz repertoire pieces by colleagues, plus his originals.

Through 25 albums as a leader and co-leader, including his neo-soul/acid jazz ensemble Luv Park and the bracing collective trio Tarbaby, Evans has continuously followed a vigorously individual path. Always pushing the boundaries of music – even questioning what it’s called – Evans attracts other brilliant, progressive musicians with a sound and style like no one else. His Quintet for this concert is comprised of Ralph Bowen, saxophone, Kurt Rosenwinkel, guitar, Luques Curtis, bass, and Mark Whitfield Jr, drums.
