Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society Concert Features Jazz Legend Houston Person

The Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society continues its 2014-2015 season with a performance by The Houston Person Quartet, at 5 p.m., on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at the Baltimore Museum of Art, 10 Art Museum Drive in Baltimore.

Tickets are $38 general admission, $36 BMA members/seniors, and $10 students. The Quartet features American septuagenarian saxophonist Houston Person, whose 2014 album, The Melody Lingers On, has earned him widespread acclaim for its inspired take on the Great American Songbook. Person has called his style “good old bootin’ tenor sax playing.” Focusing on melodies in the tradition of Gene Ammons, Person explores blues repertoire, ballads, popular and R&B standards. He has made a name for himself in the genre of “soul jazz,” expressing influences from soul and gospel music. Person has been described as having a “fundamental approach to his horn, eloquently expressing heartfelt emotion in much the same way a vocalist might.“ (JazzTimes)
