Baltimore Schools, Offices, Aquarium Closed After Riots Break Out

Baltimore City Public Schools announced that schools are closed on Tuesday following riots that broke out Monday afternoon and continued into the evening.
Gov. Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency Monday and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake instituted a citywide curfew from Tuesday, April 28, to Tuesday, May 5, after a surge of violence.
Public school officials said Tuesday’s closure would “ensure safety of students” and facilitate compliance with the curfew. The district office will be open Tuesday with liberal leave in effect, according to the announcement.

All Baltimore City Catholic schools except the School of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen will be closed on Tuesday as well, according to the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
Baltimore City Community College is closed on Tuesday.

Johns Hopkins University first said it would open at noon, then announced at approximately 11:30 a.m. that classes were canceled.
The National Aquarium in Baltimore is closed to visitors Tuesday.
State offices in Baltimore City will be closed from 6 a.m. until the end of the day shift, according to state of Maryland officials. Essential personnel should report.
