311 is a great system for things like getting potholes filled. I think it has major problems dealing with housing inspections. (More on that issue to come.)
I called 311 on Tuesday afternoon and a customer service representative said the website is down for maintenance. She did not know how long the system would be down. "You can try again tomorrow," she said. She did offer to take my service request over the telephone.

According to wikipedia, Baltimore was the first city in the nation to operate a 311 call center. It started operation in October, 1996.
Hey, 311! While you have the system down, can you redesign the drop down box marked "service type"? Some of the entries are cut off. For instance, there is selection entitled, "Housing Inspection: Trash and/or V...". That's it.
I will try again tomorrow. I've got a whole stack of housing inspection requests to make.
