On Monday, June 4, I outlined an ambitious plan to fund $17.1 million in new spending on essential services by modifying the city’s $2.8 billion preliminary budget for Fiscal Year 2013.
The City Council will hold a voting session on my People’s Plan for a Better Baltimore on Monday, June 18 at 10 a.m. inside Council Chambers.

I am calling on my colleagues on the City Council to send a clear message that cuts to public safety and to Baltimore’s social safety net will not be tolerated. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s proposed fiscal year 2013 budget represents a good initial effort, but we must do more to protect our citizens and increase Baltimore’s population, which has been in decline for decades.

- Restore funding to keep city recreation centers open
- Double funding for youth summer jobs
- Double funding for afterschool programs
- Restore funding for Experience Corps program
- Restore funding to prevent closure of fire companies
- Phase in increased costs of employee contributions to healthcare plan
Please contact your City Councilmember and ask that they support this thoughtful plan to strengthen Baltimore’s neighborhoods by investing in our youth, families and seniors.
