Yesterday's blog "Toileting the Circle" has caused a bit of a buzz!
I drove by this morning to see if the toilet was still there. It is. Or maybe I should say "was". A couple of the good and hard-working folks from the CVCBD were already there, prepared to haul the whole thing away. I asked them to leave it - it's causing no harm while inspiring plenty of humor. And of course, there's the message end of this whole business. And surely it's rightful owner would rather have it returned than see it trashed. Right? Well, wouldn't you? As much as I like to think of myself as persuasive I'm no match for the powers that be at the CVCBD and the thing might well be on the back of the big green CVCBD truck on it's way to "porcelain heaven" by now!
Fortunately though, Channel 13 was visiting the site this morning as well. They took footage of the circle, toilet and the cars rolling by. They also interviewed a number of folks. I think I got the photo of the day though - a hilarious shot of the reporter sitting on the loo a la "The Thinker". If I get permission or, see it released elsewhere first, I'll upload it to this blog. Not so interested in making news of the newsmakers... The moment did convince me though that the toilet and its accoutrements are truly a work of art (beauty being in the eye of the beholder). And, it's sprouting of sprigs of cherry blossom made me realize it's a fairly decent substitute for those who want to see the cherry blossoms but don't want to trek all the way to DC for the experience.

There is a danger in this though. Rushing past it last night to avert an emergency my granddaughter asked if we couldn't just stop there. She gave a full belly laugh when I explained why not. And with the weekend upon us there's an even chance that a not so sober visitor might miss the thing entirely and smash it to bits. Or worse, mistake it as a usable potty, an upgrade of sorts from the surrouding foliage usually frequented.
In closing, I'd like to invite the neighbor/artist/advocate who created the installation to come forward and claim kudos. No matter the message or the quality of the art this certainly has added a dose of humor to our little Charles Village. Something we can always use. So, thank you Anonymous!
