I absolutely positively LOVE Valentine's Day! And it's not just because I am a hopeless romantic. Rather, it's because there is so much excitement that comes with a day devoted to letting the ones closest to you know just how special they are.
My day began very early with the announcement that my nephew's daughter, promised to arrive on this day did just that. She was born at 2:45 a.m. and is, of course, absolutely gorgeous. She represents the start of the fifth generation of my family to be born here on United States soil. We are all over the moon with our sweet little Valentine girl.
Morning coffee was highlighted by coffee served in a large mug decorated with hearts and the gift of an Al Green CD that opens with "Let's Stay Together". We decided to play it on the way to work and school so that Sylena could learn it. She did her best.

And of course, today is the big Valentine's Day celebration at Sylena's little school. I wish I had a photo of her and her classmates all dressed in pink and shades of red. Already hyped, I can just imagine that nap time will be filled with little ones dreaming about the sweet cards and treats they received at lunch time.
Driving down Greenmount Avenue I was pleased to see the shop windows crammed with heart shaped balloons and oversized cards expressing love and affection. If you need a last minute gift go straight away to "Herman's Discount Store" in the 3100 block of Greenmount. They have everything heart-y.

The folks standing at the bus stop dressed in red or carrying red gift bags brought a smile to my face. I couldn't help wondering how the recipient of their gift would react. This day of love is affecting everyone!
For this first time ever we've decided to have dinner at home, made by the exceptional chefs at Eddie's of Roland Avenue. We ordered a little bit of everything. I can't wait!
Having just received delivery of a beautiful bouquet of red and white tulips (roses are so 2011!) I am hoping that every Baltimorean enjoys this day. And consider extending a hand or hello to someone you don't know. You'll be amazed at how even the simplest thing can make someone's day.
XOXOXO,
Dana
