Homeless shelters will extend their hours, and the Salvation Army will provide hot drinks during a code blue alert, city officials say.
Wen asked residents to check on older neighbors to ensure they have heat and power. Those without power may call 311 to discuss energy assistance.
“Hypothermia, or low body temperature, can be just as dangerous as extreme heat, so it is important to stay indoors in heated areas,” Wen said. “Extreme cold temperatures can permanently injure, or even kill.”
