It’s time for Baltimore-are “hons” to break out their cat-eye glasses, leopard print clothes, blue eye shadow and start working on those beehive hairdos as Baltimore celebrates all things “Hon” on June 9th and 10th when Café Hon hosts the 19th Annual HONfest. The 2012 edition of HONfest will cover four blocks of West 36th Street in Hamden…it’s on “The Avenue”, Hon.
Again this year, the feature event of HONfest will be the crowning of “Bawlmer’s Best Hon.” On Saturday, June 9th, everyone is invited to the Main Stage as the “Hons” try to wow the crowd and the judges. The Top 10 participants on Saturday will come back on Sunday to dance the “HONey Hop” and show their one-minute talent for the chance to be “Bawlmer’s Best Hon.”
“We’re here to recognize the hard working women of Baltimore, especially those representing the women of the 1960’s,” says Denise Whiting, owner of Café Hon. “Our goal is to have fun and celebrate Baltimore. We’re looking for the woman with the strongest Baltimore personality and the best command of ‘Bawlmer-ese,’our local language.”
In addition to the “Bawlmer’s Best Hon” contest, this year’s festival will feature local musicians playing on one of three stages. Visitors will also be able to sample a variety of foods, can purchase the works of many local artists, and visit the fabulous shops of Baltimore’s historic Hampden neighborhood.
