Free Document Shredding Event Planned in Baltimore
Attendees must bring a driver's license or proof of residency, and are allowed to bring up to two trash bags of documents.

Fall is near, and the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) has upcoming opportunities to prepare City homes and neighborhoods for the cooler temperatures.
This Saturday, Sept. 17, DPW will host a free paper shredding event and recycle bin sale. This event will be located at Montebello Elementary and Middle School, 2040 E. 32nd Street, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

DPW needed to cancel the October shred/recycle day event that had been scheduled for October. That means the Sept. 17 event will be the final one of the year.
The free paper shredding is an opportunity for Baltimore City citizens to safely dispose of sensitive paper documents quickly, easily, and securely. Cancelled checks, medical records, credit card information, utility bills, old tax returns, and pay stubs are among the many items that should be destroyed by shredding. Attendees must bring a driver’s license or proof of residency, and are allowed to bring up to two trash bags of documents.

In addition, those popular bright-yellow recycling bins will also be on sale at the same event! Residents can purchase the bins for $7 (regularly $12), and lids for the large containers will be on sale for $3. Smaller 18-gallon bins are on sale for $4 (regularly $5). All items available while supplies last.
Recycling benefits our environment and our City, and it is easy to do. Residents do not need city-issued recycling bins to recycle. Paper bags, cardboard or plastic boxes make great recycling containers.
Sign Up for the Mayor’s Fall Cleanup
Another opportunity to help yourself and your community is by participating in the Mayor’s Fall Cleanup, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Communities can sign up to participate in the Fall Cleanup by calling 311.
To participate, groups should organize now and provide their cleanup locations and anticipated numbers of participants when calling 311.
Registered communities will receive a supply of bags, and City trucks will be in cleanup areas to collect the bags. And residents can earn Stormwater Fee credit for participating in an organized cleanup.
