Friends Girls Complete Regular Season Lacrosse Sweep Against Park

Lady Quakers top rival, 18-6

Exacting revenge on championship game losses the past two seasons, the Friends School girls lacrosse team completed a regular season sweep of rival Park on Thursday with an 18-6 win over the Bruins at Friends.  The team had already won a 21-14 game played at Park on April 7.

The win lifts the Lady Quakers to a 10-2 record in IAAM B conference play.

Ella Cooper scored 6 goals and assisted on three others, while teammate Emma Sissman scored five times with five assists for Friends.

“Park is our biggest rival,” Cooper said after the game.  “It feels good to come up big against Park – beating them like that just feels great every time.”

The Lady Quakers jumped out to a 7-0 lead and Park was never able to mount a serious challenge, with a tough Friends defense denying Park any scores until the 9:48 mark of the 25-minute first half.  The Bruins did score four goals in the final 10 minutes of the opening half to narrow the margin to 10-6, but Friends opened the second half with three straight goals to put the game out of reach.

Friends coach Mandy Hudson said every aspect of the Lady Quaker game was clicking.

“The fact that we can spread the wealth around nicely when we need to is a very positive aspect of our offense, Hudson said, noting that seven players lit the scoreboard during the game.

The coach pointed out the team's defense also played a big role.

“The girls were sliding so well with their sticks up in the air, and we really had a lot of knockdowns that could have potentially been goals.”

In addition to Cooper and Sissman, other Lady Quakers who scored included Abby Corkum with two goals and two assists; Rachel Bolan with two goals; and Olivia Reed, Lucy Klein and Isabel Swicklik with one each.  Claire McGagh had two assists and Sarah Wallack one.  Rose Woolson had 10 saves in the net for Friends.

Rachel Hettleman and Hannah Sibel each scored twice for the Bruins.  Single goals were added by Sarah Lessans and Ashley Hohman.  Hohman and teammate Yen Baker each had an assist.
