Gilman, Friends, Poly Boys Earn Lacrosse Tourney Byes

Boys' Latin faces McDonogh on Friday in the MIAA A conference quarterfinal match.

Three different teams, three different conferences and all with a tournament bye.

The Gilman lacrosse team has earned a bye in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) A conference tournament, the Friends School boys team received a bye in the MIAA B conference and the Poly boys team has a first-round bye in the 3A-2A East region of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association playoffs.

The Greyhounds will play either Boys’ Latin or McDonogh under the lights at Towson University’s Johnny Unitas Stadium on Tuesday, May 17, beginning at 8:30 p.m.  The opponent will be determined Friday when the Lakers visit the Eagles in quarterfinal action.

Meanwhile, the Quakers will host a semifinal game at the North Charles Street campus on Tuesday afternoon.

Poly will face the winner of the Mergenthaler-Lake Clifton game at Poly on Saturday, beginning at noon. Mervo and Lake square off tomorrow.

Gilman earned its bye with a 9-4 record in the Red Division of the MIAA A conference, one game better than second place St. Mary’s. The two teams split regular season action, with each winning road games.

The Quakers posted a perfect 14-0 record in the MIAA B conference.

Poly also finished the season undefeated at 10-0, and won the first-ever Division Nine Baltimore City lacrosse championship.
