James Gillece, Esq., Joins Adelberg, Rudow
Accomplished Charles Village attorney will be Of Counsel to the regional law firm.

BALTIMORE –Adelberg, Rudow, Dorf & Hendler, LLC has announced that attorney, James P. Gillece, Jr., is now Of Counsel to the Firm. Rated AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale Hubbell, Gillece brings 45 years of experience in labor and employment law, general and business litigation and criminal law.
Chambers USA twice listed him as one of the leading labor and employment lawyers in the Mid-Atlantic region and Chambers & Partners has annually included him in its lists of leading attorneys. Gillece also was named in Who’s Who in America and regularly selected for Maryland Super Lawyers.

After beginning his legal career as a summer clerk at Piper & Marbury (along with fellow summer clerk Robert M. Bell who would become Maryland‘s Chief Judge), Gillece went on to becomes the director of the Piper & Marbury branch, which provided free or low cost legal services to poor people in the neighborhood and was featured in the book, The New Private Practice.
Gillece continued to work in several large Baltimore-based firms, most recently at Whiteford, Taylor & Preston, and was the lawyer for the Baltimore City Fair for over 10 years until it went out of existence.

He is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Seventh and Eight and Eleventh Circuits and the District of Columbia, and the United States Supreme Court.
Throughout his career, he has built his practice handling union organizing, NLRB proceedings, discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge non-compete agreements, employment torts, labor injunctions, collective bargaining, covenants-not-to-compete, defamation, disciplinary actions, RICO, breaches of contract and other business torts. Clients have included healthcare institutions, private medical practices, manufacturers and utilities.
One of his murder cases was featured in True Detective Magazine and he also authored The Problem with Increasing Prosecution of Fraud and the Role of the White Collar Attorney and Inside the Minds: White Collar Fraud Investigation.
A Calvert Hall graduate, Gillece later became Valedictorian at LaSalle University and earned a Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School, where he was a development and symposium editor of the Law Review. After serving on Notre Dame’s Law Advisory Council and being president of its Law Association, he earned a lifetime position on its Board of Directors.
Active in the industry and in the community, Gillece received a Dedicated Service Award for being a long-time instructor at Widener University School of Law’s Intensive Trial Advocacy Program. He also was the director of both the Family Crisis Center of Baltimore County, Inc. and Camp Fire, and a member of the Board of Justice for Children. Additionally, he founded and was a long-time catcher in the Intra-Professional Athletic Conference – the Baltimore lawyers’ summer softball league.
A former board member with the American Judicature Society and Everyman Theatre, Gillece remains an active member of the Bar Association of Baltimore City, the Maryland State Bar Association, the American Bar Association and St. Patrick’s Division #5 of the Ancient Order Hibernians in Baltimore.
He resides in Charles Village and is the proud father of six grown children: several of whom have followed his footsteps and made careers out of their passion for the law and social justice.
