The Magic of Making Friends: A Halloween-themed Story

A Baltimore area author and illustrator create Halloween-themed characters to help kids value their differences

The Magic of Making Friends, follows a witch on her first day of school. Anxious about making new friends, she plans to cast spells to make people like her, but with the help of her teacher and a few little monsters, she realizes that she doesn’t need magic to make friends.

“We knew from the start that our book would have a Halloween-theme. When you have a bunch of monsters and each one is unique and special in it’s own way, it’s an opportunity to show kids that diversity is a strength,” says author Sarah Petrosky.

“They may look different, and have different talents and abilities. But, they are always at their best and strongest when they are working together.”
