Maryland To Receive More Aid for Superstorm Sandy Relief

One year later, the state receives $19 million in aid to help the hardest-hit communities.

Exactly oneย year after Superstorm Sandy hit Maryland, an announcement proclaimed the state will receiveย $19 million in aid for the hardest-hitย communities from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Senators Barbara Mikulskiย andย Ben Cardin, along withย Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, made the announcement Monday about the federal funding throughย the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The funds are in addition to a previous award ofย $8.6 million in CDBG funding, according to aย press releaseย from Mikulski's office.

Mikulski said the funds are flexible aid thatย will be used toย "help restore and rebuild critical infrastructure including roads, homes and businesses" in areas of the stateย still in need, such asย the Eastern Shore.ย The state is required to submit an action plan to HUD toย describe the needs and planned uses of the funds.

Maryland communities will have received more than $73.5 million in federal funds with this aidย forย Superstorm Sandy relief, according to a press release.ย
