Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake Designates June 2015 as "Alzheimer's And Brain Awareness Month"

Proclamation presented to Alzheimer's Association Greater Maryland Chapter

Timonium, Md. – The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Maryland Chapter applauds Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake for issuing a proclamation declaring June 2015 Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month.

Over 5.3 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, 99,000 of them in Maryland, and it is the only disease among the top 10 causes of death in America that cannot be prevented, cured or slowed.

“Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month is a time to shine a purple light for the millions of individuals and family members, worldwide and locally, who are affected by this devastating disease,” said Cass Naugle, executive director for the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Maryland Chapter.

She added, “This proclamation affirms Baltimore’s commitment to our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and moves the Alzheimer’s Association forward in our mission of raising awareness, offering support and funding essential research.”

Naugle received the proclamation from Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Leana Wen at an Alzheimer’s Association research forum that took place at the Edward A. Myerberg Center.
