Poetry by Don Burness

Come hear Don Burness read from his latest collection of verse, Sunset at Itatiaia, as well as selections from his previous books of poetry. Sunset at Itatiaia
brings together works of lyricism that pay deference to the living, the
dead, to art, and to simple joys and observations his eyes and heart
never take for granted—the same devotion he offers his wife of nearly 50
years who has been robbed of her ineffable energy by a series of
strokes some years ago. The vitality in Mary-Lou that still reverberates
is but one muse for Burness, and this new collection opens with no hint
of pity or sadness but caring and admiration for his elegant wife and
reminder of wonder.

The recent passings of friends and colleagues, including Chinua
Achebe, bring out song and harmony in Burness, but this collections is
dedicated just as much to a quiet meditation on the young who are
inheriting this world and will walk in the footsteps of this fine
lyrical poet from New England by way of the world all over by way of the
universe. Free.
