The Poly girls lacrosse team, which handily defeated Western on Tuesday by a score of 15-2, had to forfeit the game after head coach Josh Headley discovered one of the team’s players participated after receiving a poor report card.
“This makes the next game against City critical,” Headley said Thursday afternoon.
The two teams are battling for the top spot in the city league.
Headley said he asked the girls about their report cards after they had been issued, yet later learned that one player was unaware that poor grades made her ineligible. The player competed in the game against Western and in an earlier loss at Pikesville.
Headley reported the infraction to school officials, who in turn reported it to the league.
The forfeit loss puts the Lady Engineers' record at 9-2, 8-1 in league play.
On Thursday afternoon in a game without the ineligible player, the team defeated Patterson 12-5.
