Rappel for Kidney Health Returning to Hyatt Regency Baltimore

Baltimore's exclusive rappel event to support NKF-MD's patient services, education and research efforts.

LUTHERVILLE, Md. – The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland (NKF-MD) will hold its seventh annual Rappel for Kidney Health signature event, Saturday, June 25 (from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore (300 Light St. - 21202).

Rappel for Kidney Health is a fun and unique event that raises vital funds for kidney patients and research,” said Event Chair Beth Horn, chief marketing officer at Northwestern Mutual. “We’ve been pleased to support the event and encourage others to join us in this important and worthy cause.”

As the exclusive rappel event occurring annually in the Baltimore metropolitan area, Rappel for Kidney Health invites people of all ages to scale down the 15-story building, from the roof to the sidewalk. Event logistics are organized by Over the Edge (www.overtheedgeusa.com), a special events company that provides signature rappel events for non-profit organizations in North America.

Participants include people with connections to kidney disease, including transplant donors and recipients, as well as adventure seekers, media personalities and other local celebrities. (A VIP preview rappel will take place June 24, from 1 to 4 p.m.)

For the second year in a row, the event will offer the Toss Your Boss Challenge in which employees can raise funds for the privilege of having their boss go “over the edge.” Adding to the fun, face painting, a DJ and additional entertainment will be available in the landing zone where hundreds of friends, family members and hotel guests will cheer on the rappel participants and greet them when they reach the pool deck.

NKF-MD is providing personal fundraising pages to assist rappel participants in raising the required $1,000 minimum to participate in the event. Once the money is raised, participants will participate in a training session and receive a commemorative photo of their rappel.

Through the years, Rappel for Kidney Health events have created an unbelievable amount of excitement, drawing more than 530 participants and raising over $676,000 to help the Foundation expand its patient services, education and research efforts. In 2015, the event raised over $100,000, making NKF-MD a member of Over the Edge’s Sky High Club.

“For every 10 people who have kidney disease 9 of them do not know that they have it,” said Traci Barnett, NKF-MD’s president and chief executive officer. “Rappel for Kidney Health allow us to reach and serve the kidney community, while offering participants a one-of-a-kind experience.”
