Readers Sound Off on North Baltimore Safety

Patch readers share if they feel safe in their neighborhoods.

When my own 4th district councilman leaves community meetings early, argues with his constituents and refuses to sit and talk to residents about our concerns...no. I don't feel safe at all.

We live in North Baltimore. In the 10yrs we have ownee our home we have seen the neighborhood change for the worse. We were robbed twice(car stolen the second time)and had a multitudde of items stolen from our garage, all within past 2yes. Also, my son was just assaulted and robbed at York rd and Cedarcroft by a group of 6 on a Tuesday evening at 9pm. It' is not safe. We need more police presence and follow through when police reports are filed. We will be moving when property values bounce back a bit.

no i do not feel safe in my own neighborhood. it sad that i see the same boys every day sitting on the street corners selling drungs and the city does nothing about it.

Yeah, I feel safe. There's some random theivery of stuff out of the backyard every once in a while, but nothing serious. That stuff happens in the suburbs too.

While I don't live in North Baltimore, I am over that way occasionally. I'd say that if I am in my car, I feel safe, if I am walking, especially at night, I keep my eyes open all the time.

Unfortunately, it seems like more crime is creeping into North Baltimore every year. A 30% increase in non-fatal shootings over the past year is serious stuff. My belief is that it's an extension of the fabled answer as to why one would rob a bank -- it's where the money is. As times get tougher, criminals have to extend the scope of their reach.. and North Baltimore is (sadly) somewhat ripe for the picking.

Yes. I think the Great Recession certainly put a strain on our neighborhood, but it never got that bad and feels like it's getting better again.
