South Baltimore Learning Center To Hold The Wonder of Learning Gala, Apr. 11

Black tie-optional celebration to support adult literacy and career preparation services

NORTH BALTIMORE – Travel through the looking glass to South Baltimore Learning Center’s Wonder of Learning Gala - presented by M&T Bank, Saturday, Apr. 11, from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m., at Montgomery Park Business Center (1800 Washington Blvd.).

By the order of the Queen of Hearts, this black tie-optional, whimsical celebration will feature cocktails, wine, beer and flavorful dishes provided by Baltimore’s best restaurants and caterers, including Mother’s, Bluegrass, Nick’s Inner Harbor Seafood Restaurant, DaMimmo, Bluegrass, Steve’s Lunch and Our House.

Silent and live auctions will have a variety of items up for bid, including: a week’s stay in a Paris apartment, a week’s stay in Steamboat Springs, Co; a private behind-the-scenes tour of M&T Bank Stadium and gift certificates galore.

Adding to the fun, guests can enjoy the magic of a sleight-of-hand artist, taking photos with the Mad Hatter and Alice, and having their portrait drawn by caricaturist, Rich Wright. For more adventure, guests can follow the White Rabbit onto the dance floor and move to the music of Fifth Avenue.

With FOX 45 Morning News Anchor Tom Rodgers as emcee and SBLC Board Vice President Ian H. Neuman (principal, Abbey Drum Co.) as event chair, the gala also will honor longtime SBLC board member and donor, Jonathan Melnick (president and CEO, Melnick/Newell) and longtime SBLC Executive Director, Sonia Socha, for their commitment, dedication and support for the Center, its learners, and adult literacy.

The South Baltimore Learning Center is a community-based nonprofit organization providing functional literacy and life skills training in addition to career preparation services to educationally disadvantaged adults in the Baltimore area. It has been in operation since 1990 and now serves over 1,000 adults annually.
