Student Stabbed at School is Critical: Baltimore Police
This was reportedly the second incident involving a student with a weapon at the school in the past week.

One student is fighting for his life after being stabbed by another student at a Baltimore City high school Tuesday, police reported.
At noon, officials responded to a reported stabbing on the third floor of Renaissance Academy High School, according to Baltimore Police spokesman T.J. Smith.
A 17-year-old sophomore entered a classroom where school was in session and stabbed a 17-year-old junior multiple times, Smith said.

The suspect fled and was soon apprehended in the 800 block of Vine Street, he said.
“We have the suspect in custody....[and] we have one 17-year-old that’s fighting for his life right now at the hospital,” Smith said.

The victim was in critical condition, according to Smith, who said the Baltimore Police Department was taking the lead on the investigation because the student had life-threatening injuries.
“This is a crime scene at this point in time,” Smith said, speaking a press conference outside the school, located in the 1300 block of McCullogh Street.
A motive and the nature of the relationship between the suspect and victim were unclear, he said, noting it was early in the investigation. “We don’t know all the details that surround why this one student entered the classroom and stabbed another student,” Smith said.
The school building was locked down immediately after the incident per protocol and has since been evacuated, officials said.
Renaissance Academy will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Dr. Gregory Thornton, CEO for Baltimore City Public Schools.
Students enrolled at Renaissance will go to an alternate facility on Wednesday.
Thornton said he was “really disappointed” and “praying for [the] young man to hopefully pull through.”
According to Thornton, the school was on a list of facilities to shutter.
“I’m not giving up on the school by a longshot,” Thornton said, but he tempered that by saying he had “a lot of rethinking” to do about whether or not to close the school.
This was the second report of an armed student at the school in one week.
Renaissance Academy canceled after-school activities last Wednesday after officials said a student was found with a loaded gun on campus.
The “teacher was on top of it,” Thornton said.
The teacher notified police, who apprehended the student, according to Thornton.
And officials say security has already been ramped up at Renaissance High School.
“We’ve conducted safety checks at the school for the last several weeks to ensure the school was safe,” Chief Goodwin of Baltimore City Public Schools Police said at the press conference.
