North Potomac Speech Pathologist Mindy Postal Wins MCPS Honors of Speech and Language Services

Montgomery County Public Schools Supervisor of Speech and Language Services Pamela DeFosse presented its 2013 Honors of Speech and Language Services Award to speech pathologist Mindy Postal, a 23-year veteran of MCPS at the annual Speech and Language Services end-of-year meeting onJune 5. More than 200 of her colleagues attended.

DeFosse described Postal as "a clinician's clinician," demonstrated by her "outstanding clinical skills in intervention, excellent diagnostic skills, high level of professionalism, and conscientious manner in all aspects of her work."

Postal, a University of Maryland College Park alumna, did her graduate work at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She began her career as a speech pathologist at Prince George’s County’s James E. Duckworth Regional Center, then worked for MCPS as a long-term substitute speech pathologist in elementary schools, at the Preschool Education Program (PEP), the Sandburg Learning Center and community-based classrooms. She continues to work at John T. Baker Middle School in Damascus, where she has been for 21 years, and once a week at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville.

Martha Wade, speech pathologist at Damascus High School, nominated Postal for this honor, noting "She consistently delivers quality speech-language therapy services to school community-based students, Learning for Independence students, as well as speech students in the general education population."

Wade says Postal "consistently meets all Individual Education Program (IEP) timelines and never misses a therapy session … [and] has successfully handled challenging cases that end in mediation, and does an excellent job with parent communication, which improves the parent-school relationship."

Postal and her husband Charles Postal, CPA, managing partner at Rockville-based Santos, Postal & Company, PC, have two children, Maury and Sara. She volunteers for organizations including Suburban Hospital, Israel Bonds and the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes and the Hebrew Home. She also facilitates MCPS Speech and Language Services workshops for secondary speech and language pathologists and serves as a clinical fellowship observer.
