Barkley, Reznik, and Robinson win District 39 race

Two incumbents and one new candidate will go forward to general election

Incumbent Democratic State Delegates Charles E. Barkley and Kirill Reznik, and candidate Shane Robinson beat out opponents for party's nomination for House of Delegates in District 39 Tuesday.

With all District 39 precincts reporting -- which includes parts of North Potomac, Gaithersburg, and Montgomery Village -- and early votes included, Barkley won thirty percent of the district with 5067 votes.  Reznik came next with 3947 and Robison had 3150.

Tony Puca, a resident of North Potomac who decided to enter the race three months ago, came in fifth with 1477 votes.

"If I'd gotten my mailer out earlier I would have had a shot," said Puca, who's mailer did not reach mailboxes until Monday.  "I got 19 calls about it [Monday] night."

Shane Robinson works for at a nonprofit consulting company and is a former Peace Corp volunteer. He now lives in Montgomery Village.  Barkley has served in the legislature since 1999 and Reznik since 2006. Both live in Germantown.

The three Democrats will be up against Jim Pettit, Al Phillips, and Bill Witham in the general election.  North Potomac candidate Bill Witham was campaigning at Quince Orchard High School Tuesday.  

The Republican candidates are holding a state wide conference in Annapolis on Wednesday.
