It is nice to have options. And Coal Fire gives you options, at least where your pizza sauce is concerned.

Coal Fire’s pizza concept is to offer you a choice of three sauces: Classic (traditional Italian plum tomato sauce), Signature (a blend of sweet with a hint of spice) and Spicy (a sauce that “commands your attention”).

The sauce of choice combines with fresh homemade, hand-tossed dough and handmade mozzarella cheese for a perfectly delicious, thin-crust pizza experience.

Options for topping off your Coal Fire pizza are a nice departure from the “standards.” Pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, olives and mushrooms do make the list, but sun-dried tomatoes, banana peppers, fresh roasted red peppers, chopped basil, ground beef, and red onions make fresh, tasty alternatives.

Consider yourself warned, however, that Coal Fire pizza is “charred to perfection,” that is, the anthracite coal burning oven can reach 900 degrees which results in Coal Fire’s signature blackened crust. If this is not to your liking you may have to ask to “hold the char.”

And Coal Fire has options beyond pizza by offering a great selection of appetizers, oven baked wings, salads, pastas and sandwiches served on freshly baked rolls.

Coal Fire is located in the Kentland Shopping Center at 116 Main Street. Open hours are Sun. through Thurs., 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Fri. & Sat., 11 a.m. to midnight.
