Bites Nearby: Olney Grille & Olney Ale House

There are a myriad of variations on the Reuben sandwich, but you’ll find tempting options in Olney. 

The traditional Reuben is a sandwich of layered corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian or Thousand Island dressing, grilled between slices of rye bread. Reuben’s “sister sandwich,” Rachel, substitutes pastrami for the corned beef and cole slaw for the sauerkraut.

And the difference between corned beef and pastrami? Both are cuts of beef pickled in brine, but corned beef is boiled, pastrami is rolled in peppercorns and smoked. 

There are several grilled sandwiches at Olney Grille that tempt the tastebuds, including the Sliced Steak Ciabatta and Apple Smoked BLT. But Reuben lovers are sure to go straight for Olney Grille’s New York Melt – pastrami, Swiss cheese, Thousand Island dressing, cole slaw grilled between two slices of marbled rye bread.
