Bites Nearby: Vasilis Mediterranean Grill
Greek tavern-style cuisine on Main St. in Kentlands
Enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean right here in our Kentlands’ backyard. Vasilis Mediterranean Grill brings “Greek” to Gaithersburg by providing classic Greek fare in a cozy, relaxed setting. Outdoor seating available for the season.
For starters, Vasilis has a great selection of “mezedes”— small plates of food often served with ouzo or wine, similar to tapas. Order a few and share with friends. Try the classic hummus (puree of chickpeas, lemon, garlic, tahini) or tzatziki dip (Greek yogurt with cucumbers and garlic). Or rekindle those fond memories of that vacation in Crete by trying the grilled octopus or fried calamari. Delicious fried cheeses and traditional vegetable dishes, like Spanikopita, round out the mezedes options.
Casual, quick and always delicious, the fresh salads and hot paninis make Vasilis an excellent “lunch stop.”

Finally, no Greek restaurant would be complete without the standard dishes we know and love -- shish-kabob, souvlaki and gyro. You can’t go wrong with the basics. Other “classics” to look for among the entrees are Mousaka and Pastichio. Kalamata chicken is a customer favorite — sauteed chicken in garlic, white wine, fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, onions, kalamata olives tossed with cappellini pasta and feta cheese.
Whether you go straight to the baklava or enjoy another Greek classic first, Vasilis brings a taste of the Mediterranean right here to us. The only thing missing is the scent of the ocean and the Mediterranean breeze.
