Do You Know Your Representative? Part 2

Weiner, in hot water? How can I resist commenting?

Ok, it isn't local, but I think the title of my last post was prescient given the dominant news story today.

Honestly, it isn't about the sexting or the politics - let's just say both are beneath us even if having a little fun with the headlines is not.

Here is my problem: judgment and leadership are lacking in the case of Anthony Weiner.

For Weiner - I don't care what he did, if it was inappropriate "use" of government resources, if he cheated on his wife. HOWEVER, what he did and his horrendous response to being caught with his hand in the cookie jar represent poor judgment given who he is. It isn't illegal to argue about "what the meaning of 'is' is," but if it were illegal to be stupid, anyone who'd have that argument - or need an investigation to resolve the question - is guilty.

For the Democratic leadership - they have also displayed terrible judgment in their coming to terms with the inevitable. They have also run from leadership on the issue by not calling for Weiner's immediate resignation. Call me old fashioned, but I just don't believe in being non-judgmental... if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck... it's time to have the courage to lead. Witness John Boehner who recently dealt with a similar situation before you knew it was a situation!

When I ask, "Do you know your representative?" I'm not asking if you know or even care about his, ahem, deep dark secrets. I'm asking if you have confidence that he or she has the character and courage to lead when it isn't popular with the Unions, with his/her party or even the public.
