Maryland Driving Test-- wait time

Lookig for advice.  My son signed up to take the Maryland Driver's test and we had to wait 6-8 weeks to a get an appointment. We were willing to drive anywhere in the state but  there weren't  many open slots even 2 hours away, so we went to a nearby location.  If that wasn't  bad enough , unfortunately,  he  failed  the test  so we came home and signed up immediately and once again the next available time slot is not for two  more months.  It is insane that kids have to wait so long. Is there a way around it? Any suggestions would be helpful.
