The Gaithersburg Book Festival is holding a Short Story Contest for all high school students (grades 9-12; public, private, or homeschooled) living in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, D.C. Short stories must be no longer than 1,000 words and must begin with one of three lines provided on the contest website. All entries must be submitted electronically as a Word document by February 24, 2012. Up to ten stories will be chosen as finalists and posted on the Gaithersburg Book Festival website prior to the Festival. The first, second, and third place winners will be announced at the Book Festival on Saturday, May 19, 2012, and will receive prizes of $100, $50, and $25, respectively, provided by the Johns Hopkins Montgomery County Campus.
