Hanukkah Begins Sundown Tuesday, Local Events Planned

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, begins at sundown Tuesday and goes until Dec. 24. The Jewish holiday commemorates the story of the Maccabean Revolt against Syrian rulers in present day Israel 2,300 years ago.

Chanukah @ 3 Metro Center

Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

A wonderful indoor family event with a giant Menorah lighting, gameshow, hot latkes and chocolate coins, and a magic show.

Chanukah Lights & Music

Sunday, Dec. 21, 5:30 pm.

Join to watch the lighting of a giant Techno-Menorah and listen to the music of Hassidic rapper “MOR-TO-LIFE.” Includes glow-in-the-dark gifts, Judah Macabbee, hot latkes, jelly doughnuts and chocolate gelt.

This outdoor celebration will be at Bethesda Lane shops at Bethesda Row off Arlington Road, between Bethesda Avenue and Elm Street.

Chanukah Celebration at Westfield Mall

Tuesday, Dec. 16, 4-6 p.m.

Join in a menorah lighting, crafts, Chanukah foods, and a ride on the Chanukah Express Train.

Chanukah Community Celebration

Thursday, Dec. 18, 6 p.m.

Cabin John Shopping Center’s food court, corner of Tuckerman and Seven Locks in Potomac

Giant menorah lighting, magic tricks, creative balloons, special performance by Chabad of Potomac Hebrew School, free latkes, Chanukah treats, free menorahs, Chanukah gelt, featuring the Amazing Magic of Mr. D.
