Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Ocean City declares Special Event Zone for Endless Summer Cruisin' (delawareonline.com) — Ocean City is activating a Special Event Zone for the Endless Summer Cruisin' classic car weekend, bringing lower speed limits, higher fines, and heavy police presence from Oct. 6–11. Residents and visitors should expect congestion, stricter parking enforcement, and tougher penalties for reckless driving, with officials urging everyone to use crosswalks and avoid encouraging burnouts or stunts.
2. USACE: $25.7M to go toward Ocean City beach renourishment after nor'easter (wbal.com) — Ocean City's storm-battered beach is getting a $25.7 million federal renourishment project that will widen the shoreline and rebuild dunes after last weekend's nor'easter. Work led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is expected to start later this year, using offshore sand to restore nearly a million cubic yards and maintain the town's critical storm buffer and tourism draw.
3. Diakonia and Town of Ocean City Celebrate Partnership and $250,000 Commitment to New Facility (wmdt.com) — Ocean City is committing $250,000 over five years to support Diakonia's new supportive living campus, strengthening services for people in need near the resort. Local leaders, including Mayor Rick Meehan, joined Diakonia's board to celebrate the bipartisan backing, which adds to state and federal support for the shelter's expansion plans.
4. Before You Let Go: Balloon Releases Are Against The Law In Maryland (thebaynet.com) — If you're planning a memorial or celebration in Ocean City, remember that Maryland law now makes intentional balloon releases illegal, with local rules already on the books here. State environmental officials say the ban protects Chesapeake Bay wildlife and encourages alternatives like bubbles, kites, flower petals, or planting trees, and they urge residents to report any intentional releases they witness.
