GAMBRILLS, MD — Police announced that two Gambrills stores were robbed within 28 hours of each other. Officers arrested five Washington, D.C. suspects, but they are still looking for three more. Two workers were assaulted during the unrelated encounters, both of which happened in the Village at Waugh Chapel shopping center.

The first incident happened on Dec. 10 around 11:15 a.m. at Village Wine & Spirits. Police said an employee confronted a group of shoplifters, but the primary suspect smashed a bottle over the worker's head. The suspect then flashed a knife and threatened to hurt the victim.

The employee went to an unnamed hospital with serious injuries, officers said. Authorities expect the worker to survive.

Police said the suspects, two unknown males and one unidentified female, fled in a silver Chrysler 300 that may have had District of Columbia tags. Officers followed the sedan, but they lost it shortly after they crossed into Prince George's County. Detectives are searching for this accused trio.

The second scuffle came on Dec. 11 around 3 p.m. at Rack Room Shoes. Authorities said a manager tried to stop a different group of shoplifting suspects, but one of them pepper-sprayed the employee. The worker was not hurt, however.
