Historic Johns Hopkins House In Anne Arundel County Sold To Nonprofit Group

GAMBRILLS, MD — The historic house that was the birthplace and home to Maryland philanthropist and investor Johns Hopkins was sold to a nonprofit group that plans to turn the property into a wellness center.

According to a WJZ report, White Halls in Gambrills was recently purchased by Jacqueline and Robert Williams, and their nonprofit, A Path to Peace. They plan to turn the 13-acre site into a housing, healing and wellness campus, the report said.

The sale came despite another group's year-long effort to purchase and preserve the property.

In a statement, Friends of the Johns Hopkins House President Don Bailey said it was with "great sadness" that the group learned the property was sold.

"I want to thank every one of you for the support you have given us over the last year and a half," Bailey said. "We worked hard to save this historic house and property."

In a statement sent to WJZ, Jacqueline Williams said her nonprofit plans to create a center that combines supportive housing, equine-assisted services and community-based agricultural programming.

"It is both an honor and a responsibility to bring this vision to life on the historic grounds of Johns Hopkins, whose legacy continues to reflect a deep commitment to improving lives and expanding opportunity for others," she said.
