Defense Giant To Cut Nearly 400 Jobs In Anne Arundel County

The Amentum job cuts are expected to take effect in October and November.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Federal defense contractor Amentum is set to lay off nearly 400 employees this fall.

Filings issued to the Maryland Department of Labor revealed the cuts will occur in two phases, the first of which will see 317 employees ousted by Oct. 31.

The second round will take effect Nov. 13 and impact an additional 65 individuals.

Both layoff waves were linked to 7710 Milestone Parkway in Hanover. However, the listed address is that of a Wawa gas station.

It's possible the layoffs could be tied to the Fort Meade military installation, which is located about four miles away.

Amentum has three publicly listed locations: Aberdeen Proving Ground, Annapolis Junction and Germantown. Of the three, Annapolis Junction is the only one with ties to Anne Arundel County.

The Baltimore Business Journal reported that the layoffs were linked to a "transition" of intelligence contracts, and that the firm is also carrying out layoffs in Arizona and Oregon.

The defense contractor specializes in both software and engineering services, with tens of thousands of employees spread across over 70 countries.
