LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, MD — One of Maryland's largest family-owned furniture retailers went from being a tenant to an owner after securing a new warehouse deal for a Linthicum Heights site.
Gavigan's Furniture, which operates showrooms across Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Harford counties, bought the 177,536-square-foot warehouse for $17.75 million, according to a Thursday release.
The site is located at 700 Evelyn Ave. and was occupied by the retailer for over 10 years.
"Ownership gives the company greater control over its long-term operating and occupancy costs while providing a foundation for future expansion," Matthew Curran, of MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services, said in a release.
"The property's strategic location allows them to maintain
proximity to their showrooms throughout the region."
The warehouse, built in 1968, includes 25 loading docks, nine drive-in bays, a parking lot that has the capacity for 85 vehicles and a second-level space for offices.
Gavigan has six showrooms in Bel Air, Catonsville, Frederick, Glen Burnie, Towson and Westminster. They all operate Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
